Inspiration: I am loving color photography more lately. So I should pay more attention to The Photodiarist in Color. In any event, here's a photo I posted in black and white in The Photodiarist yesterday. I love the simplicity of black and white. The way it eliminates distractions and focuses the eye on the emotion of the shot. But we see in color. Color is reality. 

Street Portraiture: The Blues

New York: Clinton between Stanton & Houston Streets, Lower East Side

Inspiration: In the moment that she walked into this spot,I was quite overcome by the blues. Wondrous shades of blues. Not to mention the lines . . . in the pleats of her dress and in the window bars. So, I summoned up the nerve to ask her for a photo. I am so glad she agreed. I love the blues. 

Street Portraiture: Purple Shades

New York: Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Inspiration: For this portrait, I'd considered asking her to remove her shades. But they added a touch of mystery, were such a pretty purple hue, and complimented her skin and blonde hair. For a black and white photo, check out The Photodiarist.

Shades of Red

Inspiration: Whenever I am inspired to shoot street-style (and there's so much of it in Williamsburg), I am usually drawn to a few things about the total look. Love love love her messy up-do. And how utterly cool are those shades of red? Check her out in black, white and gray.
