The Ride

New York: Union Square

Inspiration: This is what I love about my city. Unique people. I love that this city holds within it someone who would lovingly create a vehicle unlike no other in this world and actually ride it on the streets of Manhattan to show it off in Union Square. This ride has horns, a stereo system, a warm, enveloping seat for those long rides in the city and, to quote my friend Cristi from thatsorad, totally RAD decoration. Okay. Maybe not. It's a little crazy. But thank goodness for the variety of people that exist among us!

Tulipa

New York: Gramercy Park

Inspiration: It would be almost criminal to show these in black and white but not in color. And since I don't want to commit that crime . . . 

From A Macro Perspective

New York: Gramercy Park

Inspiration: Sunday was rainy and cold.  That made it a great day for macro photography! I love dewy flower shots. This tulip was way more brilliant than this photograph suggests. When I snapped this, I deliberately underexposed it as much as I could before fading to black altogether. Then, in Lightroom, I played around to achieve this washed out look. More tulip photos to come . . .

Spring Colors

New York: Gramercy Park

Inspiration: Gramercy Park is a gated private park (one of two in the city). Only people in buildings surrounding the park have the right to keys. I am not one of them. It is one of the prettiest little gardens one could imagine (as far as I can tell from the outside), especially during the Spring. Whenever I walk by with my camera, I snap photographs of blooming flowers through the bars of the iron fence surrounding the park. This is one of them.

Woodland Fairy in Spring (and in Color)

New York: Central Park

Inspiration: I prefer black and white photography to color. But even I have to admit when color is preferable. I think that is probably the case here.  For the black and white version of Woodland Fairy, see The Photodiarist. What do you think?

Colorful People Pt. 2

New York: Union Square

Inspiration: The closest thing we have to Harajuku Station, is Union Square. While the park is not filled with girls wearing gothic dresses and new-age geisha makeup, it is home to a rather eclectic group, including some of the most colorful people I've seen in town. 

Tokyo: Street Portrait

Tokyo: Omotesando

Inspiration: Today was my last day in Tokyo. So, I went back to Omotesando to check out a store called Forbidden Fruit and to take a few more random shots of Tokyo street-style. Here's one of those random shots. Cellphones and cigarettes . . .

Kyoto: Kimono Girls

Kyoto: Kiyomizo Temple

Inspiration: The Kiyomizo Temple is popular among both tourists and Kyoto-ites. This group of girls, having fun among themselves togged in Kimonos with butterfly-tied obis, are from Kyoto.

Arashimaya: Bamboo Groves

Japan: Arashimaya (just outside of Kyoto)

Inspiration: As most of you know, I am most passionate about photographing people. But this trip has allowed me an opportunity to expand my horizons a bit.
