Wild Waters

New York: Amagansett Beach, Long Island

Inspiration: I took this photo two weekends ago before Hurricane Irene became the only news reported by the media. In fact, I spent almost all of this past weekend indoors after buying canned food, water and batteries for my flashlight like an obedient citizen. When the storm finally hit Manhattan in the wee hours of Sunday morning, the wind whistled madly through the cravasse formed between my apartment building and the one behind it making it sound much more villanous than it was. It's bark ended up being worse than its bite.  An earthquake and a hurricane in the same week! What next?  Ahh . . . New York Fashion Week.  But that's one "hurricane" of sorts to which I am looking forward!

Braving the Waves

Inspiration: Forgive my absence! I've just returned from a mini-vacation in the Hamptons.  My family, boyfriend and I rented a place in Easthampton for a few days. It was fabulous. I grew up near a beach so walking along any beach brings back tons of wonderful childhood memories.

Handmade

New York: My apartment

Inspiration: Remember when I told you I was taking a leather working class? Well, here's my final product! A handbag made of nubuck leather and python. Since I have no sewing machine, I had to hand sew every single stitch inside and out. During the course of this sewing journey, I punched holes in practically all of my fingers and my dining room table.  The photo sucks because I took this with my iphone in a hurry to send it to my Mom (an expert seamstress and fantastic artist) to show her that the sewing lessons she gave me so long ago paid off after all (if you ignore the crooked stitches on the handles)!

Cooling Off on a Hot Summer Day

New York: Washington Square Park

Inspiration: It was so hot this weekend that we knew that rain was not far off.  But we didn't expect a monsoon.  One that flooded parts of the city (especially Staten Island) such that cars were completely underwater.  In any event, here is a photo just before the rain started.  Even dogs get into the fun at the fountain in Washington Square Park.

Inspiration:  Just a few more photos from my trip to the Berkshires and Mass MOCA.  The upside down trees really held me and my camera captive for a while!

Massachusetts: Mass MOCA, North Adams

Inspiration: At the beginning of the summer, he and I went to the Massachusetts Musuem of Contemporary Art. I should have posted these photos back then . . . but other photos distracted me. I loved Mass MOCA. It's a maze of industrial warehouses that has been rebuilt to house gigantic pieces of visual contemporary pieces, many of which I couldn't quite fathom.  In any event, here are a few photos from that weekend. I will leave the interpretation of these pieces to you . . .

Inspiration: "Say Cheese!"  I love that the fountain in Washington Square Park is the neighborhood swimming pool!

Inspiration: I love this moment.  

Old School Flair

New York: 14th Street and 9nth Avenue

Inspiration: There's something very "old-school gentleman" about his look -- something that I might see in the South but rarely here in New York.  Maybe I am getting this feeling from the combination of the pipe and hat -- and the jacket in the middle of a hot summer day.
