Inspiration: What a smile to go with that Urban Cowboy vibe. Even though I post them on this blog, more often than not, I am dissatisfied with one or more elements of my photographs. I must credit this gentleman's dashing good looks for distracting me from my usual self-critique!  Color photograph (which I like better than this one) right here.

Faces

New York: Lincoln Center

Inspiration: I may have said this before, but Fashion Week is a great time for me to practice my portraiture shots.  These girls were actually modeling menswear and some chunky jewelry but I was more intrigued by their faces and the different attitudes given off by each. Check this out for a color photograph of all of them together.

Chiseled

New York: Hudson Street

Inspiration: It's time for some serious testosterone on this blog. And a guy with some beautiful cheekbones.  I am sure he is a model, but I have no idea which one. 

Some Like It Leopard

New York: Lincoln Center (first and second);  W. 26th Street (third)

Inspiration: Some like it leopard (including DJ, Becka Diamond, in the first photo). And others don't. Regardless of your camp, one thing's for certain . . . lovers of the cat print still abound (including me).

While I saw lots of leopard accessories during fashion week, at least as many people wore full-on leopard coats . . . a look that isn't for everyone. As much as I use my leopard print bag, I haven't yet been able to muster up that extra something I need to wear my 1940s ocelot coat outside of my apartment (but that's a whole other story).

Getting Graphic

New York: Hudson and Dominick Streets

Inspiration: The drama of this graphic cape-like jacket with sequined pockets (not to mention her piercing glare) is undeniable.

Canned Fashion: Natalie Hughes

New York: Hudson Street

Inspiration: Natalie Hughes, creator of the blog, Canned Fashion.  Her coat seems so 1960s a la Mary Quant. Check her out in my other blog because I think the color version is better.

Taylor Tomasi-Hill

New York: W. 26th Street

Inspiration: She is simply one of my favorite editors (along with Joanna Hillman).  Her ability to mix styles, textures, patterns and proportions in a creative and yet impeccable way never ceases to blow me away.

Thrifted

New York: Lincoln Center

Inspiration: I used to frequent thrift stores when I was in college, largely because I was dating a musician at that time and he thought thrift stores were the best place to get stage clothes for a song (no pun intended). And also because I had very little money so buying cool clothing for a song was right up my alley. My favorite piece back then was a navy officer's double breasted jacket. I wore it until the thread started to unravel. Despite my early foray, however, thrifting has never been my passion. As soon as some disposable income came my way, I began shopping for new stuff I was lusting for in magazines. More recently, however, I've delved into thrifting a bit more and as a result, my closet is home to a few odd smelling but incredible pieces (including an ocelot fur coat from the 1940s) and my tailor and I have developed a nice working relationship. More and more I am learning that there are some terrific finds to be had, even if they need a little repair here and there. And I must admit that a thrifted piece adds a certain charm, history and whimsy that you cannot get elsewhere. Much like his much worn and clearly much loved double breasted coat.

Nerd Chic

Give Me Some Leather Sleeves

New York: Lincoln Center

Inspiration: I told you about the "leather sleeves" trend that I spotted at NYFW, right? Here's more evidence of the same. Except the balance of her coat is velvet (or so it seems).  BTW, I've spotted the "leather sleeved" coat of my dreams. Here he is. At that price however, I will be dreaming for a while. Anyway, back to the photos. Everyone has reported on the prevalence of the wispy see-through maxi skirt. So true! I saw as much of those skirts as I saw fur. And now, as reported by Garance Dore, that look (and a lot of fur) is all over the Gucci runway.
