New York: Central Park
Inspiration: As I was making my way out of Central Park a couple of days ago, I heard a beautiful violin-like sound coming from the sun-dappled area where I usually hear a guy playing the sax. Indeed, this gentleman was playing an erhu, an ancient Chinese two-string instrument, while the sun was beginning its descent for the evening.
New York: Central Park
Inspiration: If you've followed this blog for a season or two, then you know that I am a bit obsessed with photographing the Woodland Fairy. She alights in Central Park each season wearing a different fairy dress and wings each time. Upon those who drop a few coins in her basket, she sprinkles fairy dust - green or blue for spring and summer, rust for fall and silver dust in the winter. How I treasure these New York characters!
New York: 59th Street and 5th Avenue
Inspiration: As I walk around the city these days, I see love stories taking place everywhere. I love it.
New York: Lower East Side
Inspiration: When I was wondering around the LES not too long ago, this gentleman asked me what I was doing. I guess I stood out with my camera hanging around my neck. I told him I was just taking pictures of people and things I found interesting. Then he said: "You can take a picture of me . . . if you find me interesting . . . and if you don't charge me." How could I resist that invitation. Especially after looking into his eyes.
New York: Washington Square Park
Inspiration: I find this inspiring. I can run for miles without a problem. It's almost as if my body is programmed to run. But don't ask me to stretch. Yoga? Ha. Pilates? Yeah. No. But when I saw this, I kind of wished I could twist my body around like a pretzel without ripping muscles and tendons into bits. I can touch my toes though.
New York: Union Square
Inspiration: I love hanging out in Union Square. There's always something going on.
New York: Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Inspiration: I took these in Brooklyn a couple of weeks ago. The words of her songs were inspired by whatever was taking place in front of her, including my taking her photograph. In any event, I loved taking her portrait because she exuded so much joy. I guess that's what playing a ukulele does to a person.
New York: Union Square
Inspiration: There's nothing like an umbrella the size of a house with which to enjoy a rainy day. My little black broken thing is hanging on by a thread. One big gust of wind will rip the now flimsy fabric from its metal skeleton for good. I need one of these giant, vented contraptions.
New York: 17th Street between Park and Broadway
Inspiration: I don't know about you, but if I peek outside in the morning and see rain and feel a chill in the air, I toss on the rain boots/sneakers/flats of some kind and throw on a jacket. I guess others give a finger to the weather and toss on short shorts, a tank top and heels instead.
New York: Union Square
Inspiration: The look of "waiting" is a rather poignant one. Expectancy and impatience mixed with a little anxiety. People who are waiting for something or someone rarely look at ease unless they are doing something while waiting - such as reading.
By the way, it rained like crazy yesterday - intermittent heavy downpours. In fact, a few hours after I took this shot, he and I went to Lucien in the Lower East Side for dinner. On our way back, the sky opened up and all hell broke loose. The streets were practically flooded. Even with umbrellas, we were totally soaked when we finally found a cab. I have to admit that running through the rain with him from shelter to shelter to cab was quite fun and funny. I almost lost my flip-flops in a giant puddle in the middle of the street.
