Inspiration: On Sunday, I saw a clown relaxing on a wall in Union Square. Clowns usually freak me out a bit but he seemed to have good energy, even though he was a "sad" clown. He introduced himself as Calvin. As we talked about his livelihood and performances, Calvin became more than the "sad" clown. He was, during the course of our conversation, happy clown, angry clown, clown making a serious point and introspective clown. I must add that there's something you don't know about this clown . . . something that I will show you later. But for now, I must run.
You met the Joker !

The idea that clowns are freaky can be found it in loads of American tv shows / movies etc. but I never really understood it. Perhaps because in Europe they are part of a long established entertainment tradition?
Great pictures in any case. It seems we see the person, rather than the character; which from your point of view is good, but may be problematic from the point of view of the clown.
Great work.

I love circus photos!
These are not circus photos, but make me remind on it!
I like painted faces! I like the expressions! And usually the contradictions between the happiness of the painting and the sadness of the life!
Great shoots!

This clown looks so cool!
I wanna steal his hat. And his confidence (or would you hang around union square with that make up with such a non-chalance?)

Normally, I don't like clowns at all. I don't like the bright make-up with fake emotions drawn on the faces. Evil laughs, crazy voices.. no... don't like it at all. But these photos are interesting. I like the first photo where the little smile on his face contrasts with his make-up.

I love 2nd photo and last photo.
Especially,last photo is so great.
I think that a professional clown is hard.
Because anytime smiling. If when he is sad.

I like a lot the last one because
we see the man through his mask,
No facade, nothing, just a man and his thoughts.
Beautiful .
