Inspiration: I've always been fascinated by geishas. I've read that there are just 85 geiko (what they call full-fledged geishas) and 26 maiko (apprentice geishas) in Kyoto and fewer than 1,000 in all of Japan. Indeed, geishas are quite rare these days. So, when I saw her at Kiyomizo Temple, I could not stop myself from following her path, so to speak, if only for a few minutes.

did you read "Gheisha" ?

Oh, wow! The colours are amazing and she is gorgeous. I've only recently read Memoirs of a Geisha and I'm fascinated with them too. Such a beautiful photo.

Great colors, I like two "worlds" between
a geisha and the people around here, modernity
and traditional . . .
This difference is amazing when you see a geisha in Tokyo at shibuya .

Considering her I wonder if this kind of living doll isn't too artificial... I mean : where is the woman under ?

la flore et la faune: Maybe that is why the geisha are withering in population, which is quite sad because the geisha are a rather incredible part of Japanese heritage.

I am not sure exactly what a geisha is and what it is they do so perhaps my comment won't make sense. However, arguably she is no more artificial than many of the people I see in London: some still dress up as punks (33 years later!); some as indie-kids; some as emo-kids etc. The style of the geisha is outdated, this is why we are more aware of the artificiality, perhaps? She remains beautiful!

I am too completely fascinated by the Geisha culture. I think I would have followed her too. You are such a world traveler. I hope to be one too someday.

you can see by her wig that she is a "fake" geisha. in japan, there are many places that you can get styled, dressed, taken around as one - similar to glamour shots, but with more history, i guess.
