New York: Coney Island, Brooklyn
Inspiration: I posted a similar photo on The Photodiarist. After staring at one and then the other, I actually think that I prefer the color shot, but only marginally. The black and white photo exudes a desolate and more powerful feeling. But the color version possesses a delicate quality, which is not usually present in my work.

I looked at both and I just love this one. The colours are so soft. It's gorgeous.

Elise -- I love it too. I love the softness of the colors. Thank you!

pssssst i almost forgot, but you're the first i'm telling!!!
i bought a camera off of Craigslist. it's a Nikon 8800, about 5 years old. 10,000 photos taken on it. i had my friend who's a photog investigate it for me and i bargained it down to 250$. picking it up on saturday. i'd like to learn to take better photos and i figure i may as well find out if it's something i like to do before investing the big bucks into a major camera no? i'm really excited!!!!!

I think that both inspire desolation, seeing the layers of colours earth-ocean-sky and the woman with those bags, that coat, that posture in between... it is gut wrenching somehow

Minor Keys - the light was so bright that it washed everything out, including the blue of the ocean . . .

this one is effective because of the soft colours...

j'adore. i don't know which one i like the most. makes me think of a photo i bought from a photographer named julia christe. http://bit.ly/aoLt2r although hers are very white. but i thought of it.

The B&W was impressive, but I really love the color here. Especially the creamy white of the sky with the blue ocean and then the beach, they got this cool stripy-thing going on.

Great shot but I think the colour is a lot better. Such a nice picture, definitely frame worthy.

I'm drawn to this one, the colors are so soft and unusual. Is there a seagull between you and she? There's a vague motion there that adds to the mood.
I'm new to your blog but have seen you comment in the others. It's simply gorgeous and very inspiring. Good writing prompts. :-)

Openscarf: Thank you for the visit and comment. There is a seagull between me and the subject. I kind of like it. Again - thanks for your lovely comment.

oh i love this! it feels so delicate. and somehow reminds me of northern Europe. not that i've been there - but somehow this makes me think of what it must be like there.

i like this as color. it's faded and gives it a quality. you know?
Posted by: faire | February 10, 2010 at 07:38 AM
Faire - I know what you mean. I prefer it as color too, which is weird for me because 9 times out of 10, I prefer black and white.

this picture is beautiful. normally i prefer photos black and white, but the color adds a dimension without detracting from the simple photo.
