New York: Gramercy Park
Inspiration: I am totally inspired by shadows of leafy trees these days. I am gobbling up these last few weeks of verdant green trees before they all start the annual ritual of turning colors and shedding leaves. I also love how much like an abstract painting "shadow" pictures resemble.
New York: Washington Square Park
Inspiration: I am back. Back into my camera, that is. Well, kind of. Because even I can't judge for how long this feeling will last anymore. We've been best friends for years, my camera and me . . . but friends fall out sometimes. One develops other interests while the other lies on the couch in the back room waiting to be charged and taken out on the town. Then one of us has to beg for forgiveness for severely neglecting the other. Thank goodness my camera is the forgiving sort. So we went out together a couple of weeks ago and came upon this piece of prose by Joan Didion drawn in chalk on the concrete grounds of Washington Square Park. And then another familiar feeling came back. One that reminded me of why I love this city how it always inspires a photograph. And of how cool it is to capture ephemeral moments like this one before they disappear with the next rainfall.

Inspiration: One of the loveliest things about summer is watching leaves rustle in the breeze and their shadows playing against a backdrop.

Inspiration: Another photo from last weekend . . . when petals littered the streets and filled pools of water after a thunderstorm.

Inspiration: Let's not even talk about my crazy absence from my blog, okay! So, you probably think I am posting a photo of my morning oatmeal right now! Those are actually hundreds of petals gathered on the edge of the street below the sidewalk after the rainstorm we had yesterday. And the one below shows petals splattered all over the sidewalk. I thought they made such interesting patterns.
New York: Broadway between 18th and 19th Streets
Inspiration: These grates ensure that when we undertake underground travel (subway), we can breathe! As a result, they are plentiful and in this city, one cannot escape walking on them - especially when walking in a group. I confess to suffering a bit of agita when walking over these things. Not so much because I am worried about losing a heel (I tippytoe over them) but more because I am not convinced that they are entirely secure. I always feel like I am going to fall in!

Inspiration: Sometimes rain makes for the best photos. Rain creates puddles. Puddles are mirrors. Mirrors reflect things . . . and in this case, city architecture.

Inspiration: Yesterday's flashflood rainstorm created great puddles in which bits of New York City architecture are reflected. I snapped this one with my I-phone. Not bad for an I-phone!
New York: Union Square
Inspiration: As you can tell from my long absence, I have been on a sabbatical away from my camera for the past three weeks. Honestly, I needed a break. I cannot force the desire see through my lens. Either it's with me or it isn't . . . and it hasn't been there for a while. Hopefully my camera love is coming back . . .
New York: From my kitchen window
Inspiration: I should be outside. I am going outside. It's just that I've been feeling under the weather for the past few days. A horrible chest cold and sore throat. I keep coughing and coughing and coughing. I have a speaking thing for work next week (I have to speak in front of 500 people including my boss!). So I cannot lose my voice! But the sun and warmth are beckoning. See the sun sparkling on those bricks? The dark shadows on the right are the frame of my window (in case you were wondering about technicalities like that).
P.S. To my Mum: I know I wished you Happy Mother's Day this morning and, for that matter, last Sunday (because I goofed the date! Well better early than never . . .). But here's another: HAPPY DAY TO YOU. You are da best.
