I am a diarist of ordinary moments that move me. I gravitate towards black and white photography but still celebrate color. I love the candid capture but respect the power of the choreographed moment. I study the rules of phos+graphis but am compelled periodically to ignore them.
Inspiration: I've seen this guy (and his troupe) performing at uptown and downtown countless times but I still end up being a part of the crowd willing to pay a couple of dollars to watch him flip and contort his body in wild poses that almost defy gravity.
Inspiration: I saw these dance shoes hanging on the railing in front of the Puck Building. At first I thought they were abandoned. But they contained a message. An invitation to a dance recital. Life has been nuts lately -- so I couldn't go.
As you can see, I haven't blogged for days -- something that hasn't really happened on my blog. I am beyond over-committed. The problem is that I have way more confidence in my ability to get things done than I can actually get done these days. I love the mantra: Go Big or Go Home. But lately, I am finding that I am rarely home!
And now I have to run. I've got family in town and we are about to leave home (again) for a day out on the town.
Inspiration: At first glance, you may think that this is the same as "Windows", posted a few days ago. It is and it isn't. Here we have a different building on the same street, a different camera (i-phone) used by the same photographer, different day but similar time of day, similar angles and similar windows. Yet to me, this set of photos gives off a grittier and more melancholy feeling than "Windows". What do you think?
New York: Lafayette Street (first photo); Lower East Side (second photo); Soho (third and fifth photos); Astor Place (fourth photo)
Inspiration: Anyone who knows me at all can tell you I am not good with mornings. I am a mid-afternoon through mid-night kind of girl. But lately, I've been getting up really early to do my photography walks - like before 7:00 am. And to my surprise, quite a few people are up and about doing stuff at that hour.
