Inspiration: The aging process of things is a profound one, even when talking about leaves. Only months ago, these old leaves were bright celadon green and gleaming, having just burst from springtime buds. As they became greener and stronger, warm breezes whistled through them helping to create that sweet feeling we all love about summer. Then almost too rapidly, the leaves turned yellow and red and orange; wickedly and wildly beautiful in the face of cool fall weather but on the cusp of. . . on the cusp of this. Yet, as they lay in a pile ready to be swept away by the caretaker of Gramercy Park, these old leaves were oddly resplendent.
{Sigh.} I miss summer already.

I love Autumn leaves! I find it fascinating that the beautiful colours are a result of toxins going into the leaves, which then drop off...LOVE this photograph!

Love what you did, the underexposure. En yes, summer has gone too soon. We already have winter here. And snow and temperatures below 0 degrees celcius. {*sigh*} winter bleus......

I like this - the detail of the leaves, against the deep black background. Fallen, but still beautiful.

This photograph is stunning and the prose is beautifully written. It's so cool to hop onto your site not knowing what I will find. Your inspirations are so varied.

"The beauty of Death", we might call it!
An image full of poetry! For me, this is the most melancholic and poetic time of the year... and I love the change of colours and light!
Great story too! Well done!

Just a random composition, and yet, a tapestry of fallen leaves, just like a painting!
So beautiful!
I'm glad you're camera caught them, before falling into oblivion...

Beautiful. And beautifully written. Do you know the Japanese concept of wabi sabi? For some reason I feel like you've been to Japan and posted about it, did I dream that?
The beauty in decay.
I miss summer, too. I guess your vacation in NY is over? I hope it was wonderful. Have a good weekend.
