New York: Washington Square Park
Inspiration: It should've come as no surprise that in a city such as mine, a city where one can buy anything on the streets, one can also buy rhyme, meter and beat.
That for just a few dollars one can hire another to pen the words one wishes to say . . . except that he'll do it (one hopes) in a poetic kinda way.
It should've come as no surprise that within a few minutes flat, and I really do mean at the drop of a hat, rhymes rolled off his mind and beats slipped through his hands. Words crystallized into a poem just like that.
Hmm. Maybe I should set up my own poetry booth.
Umm. No.

Did you get one from him? Will be interesting to see the results of his trade :)

Nick: No I didn't buy a poem from him . . . As you can see, I can write my own:-) LOL

Excellent post! Love your rhyme, and the photos are great. À perfect example of making use of your talents, funny that there are people who would buy poetry.

Hey! Your photos are incredibly good! I did just stumble over your blog and was fascinated! The B&W quality is superb too! A treat! Oh and as for the poetry-while-you-wait! ... How amazing! Don't think we have such creative guys over here in Switzerland....

The poetry might not be in words but it is in your pictures.
As always, incredible.

This is one of the craziest and most beautiful ideas I ever heard about. (And he does it with style, with an old typewriter!) I just love it. And it's probably a really good exercise for him as a poet and artist. Fantastic. The moment I saw those pictures and read what your wrote I wanted to go over to him and buy some poetry. He probably makes the day of many people.
Such as your pictures and blog make the day for us. *Happy sigh* Thank you for sharing your pictures and inspiration. Can't say it often enough. Love your blog and pictures!

Virginia is suffering from a terrible fever right now (as are many states), & after looking at that photo of a poetry salesman (wearing spectacles, of course!), I can honestly face this day without fear of being baked into a gingerbread cookie. I am an artist myself, & I often stay up late working, so my days do not begin until noon arrives with a bagged lunch. Thank you for the jumpstart! By the way, have you considered moonlighting (as if I know what you do during daylight hours) as a portrait photographer? Not studio work, mind. I am talking portraits in & around the city. Something tells me you would do well--you see people. And now to end the longest comment ever written on a blog. Take care.

You know, Jen, Poetry salespeople are fairly common in New York. It is a great idea, though. If you have a talent, why not capitalize on it!

Poetry while one waits in the land of the plenty. A brilliant idea if one is talented.
So much better than sitting at home on sofa awaiting bebefits. I admire this fellow's motivation. So beautifully captured, too!
Have a happy Thrusday photographing;-)

Have you watched Before Sunrise? Few euros for a poem in Paris. this is something special, I think. I like the young boy in the 3rd.
