Inspiration: In the whole time that I've been photographing and posting musicians on this blog (and I've posted many), I've only photographed two accordion players. This guy and this one. I am sure that there are lots of accordion players strumming away on street corners and in parks around the city, but, unfortunately, I hardly ever run into them. I think that the accordion makes such a jovial sound. It's like the Santa Claus of musical instruments.

You should go to Paris... They are everywhere ;-)
Beautiful picture

The accordian is great. Seeing this picture he was playing a sad tune? He looks very intense and serious.. The accordian looks really great, the details are very sharp.

Is NYC an accordion city? It's very interesting you chose a soft focus on his face.

@davidikus: Because I wanted a sharp focus on the accordian.
@Lady M: I think he was just looking into space . . . trying not to look at the camera, I think.
@Sara: It is, right?
@Biana: I don't recall the tune being sad at all.
@Valentine: I hope to go to Paris soon!

This is another reason why I adore living in Paris, France, the streets are lined with accordion player. His look is very penetrating!

@Englishvers: I think our streets are lined with way more saxaphone players . . .

This brings me back! I used to play accordion when I was a kid. I made a lot of noise!

although it's a jovial instrument, the accordion player is certainly not jovial.

You should look up the main squeeze orchestra (http://www.mainsqueezeorchestra.com/), they're on hiatus for the rest of the summer but they will return in Sept, they're a NY based,roughly 15 piece, all female, accordian orchestra, I attended one of their shows last week, they are a trip, so fun to watch, don't take themselves to seriously, just a good time, and if you love accordians you'll like it even more.
