Inspiration: Woodland Fairy and I are great acquaintances. I've photographed her almost every season (see here and here). People who have followed my blog for a while may remember my brief sadness when I realized that she wasn't a fairy for the sake of it. Indeed, she's quite enterprising. She charges moolah (which you drop in the duffel bag pictured in the last photo) for the fairy dust that she sprinkles all over you. Nonetheless, she makes a great photographic subject! For the color version, go here.

She's wonderful. And she has one of the hardest jobs I can imagine. Always wonder about people like that.
Great pictures, especially the third one is magical.

It's so interesting to me how joyful she appears. She's so captivating. These are amazing photos.
We all know how quickly the public can judge these eccentric types...I remember, fondly, the many characters downtown Toronto when I lived there...We often make assumptions about the rest of their lives.
I bet she smiles more than most in the park!

quirky and fun... i like photographing street performers too.. they are always so concentrated on what they are doing that the photos are never staged

I appreciate performance artist if not for their guts, but for their persistence and belief in the art that they practice. The surrealist touch of having the nest as a hat is a great detail that you captured. Thank you!

Thanks for your comments, all. Enrique: I love her nest/hat!

I love these. She really does appear to be a magical creature the way you capture her. Her costume looks so rich and detailed, and authentic! Is she always in the same place or do you find her by accident?

Thanks Openscarf. She's usually in the same place in Central Park - right at the beginning of Poet's Walk leading to Bethesda Terrace.

I'll definitely look for her next time I come to New York. She's magical (easy for a fairy!) and your photos are really nice.
