it's amazing how well human eyes pick out good composition (and other photographic rules) without trying or training.

Hi Stuffed Eskimo! It's been a while. Thank you . . . but I guess you are right . . . humans like to see photos a certain way, so it makes sense that we pick those compositions more naturally than we think - and then try to make rules from them.

This is a great candid, especially with the blurred focus of the car about to pass in front of the cop. And I agree. More often than not, I find myself more pleased with my spontaneous shots.
